Operating under Libre open access, ERBE applies the latest version of the CC BY license (see below), which grants authors the most extensive rights, and authors retain copyright alongside scholarly usage rights. ERBE is granted publishing and distribution rights.

All articles published by ERBE are made immediately available worldwide under an open access license – Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license-, meaning anyone can download and read the article for free. Moreover, in order to allow for maximum use and exposure of the work, any paper may be reused and quoted as long as the original published version is cited, thus providing that the authors obtain deserved recognition.

This license allows readers to distribute and copy an article if they credit its authors (with the DOI link to the publication). They can create extracts, abstracts and different versions, such as translations. Under this license, readers can also include the article in a collective work, and mine the text and data – including for commercial purposes. All of these uses are possible, as long as they don’t claim that authors endorse their adaptation, and don’t damage authors’ reputation.

No special permission is required to reuse all, or part of article published by ERBE, including figures and tables. For articles published under an open access Creative Common CC BY license, any part of the article may be reused without permission provided that the original article is clearly cited. Reuse of an article does not imply endorsement by the authors or ERBE.
